Joaquín Miguel Gutiérrez Canales

Joaquín Miguel Gutiérrez Canales (1796-1838)
Political and military Mason was born in the then town of San Marcos Tuxtla, Chiapas, Mexico. He had supported the independence of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. and, in turn worked in  the Captaincy General of Guatemala.
His parents were Miguel Antonio Gutierrez of the Diocese of Santander Spanish and Quiteria Rita Canales, daughter of José Canales Catalan mestizo and Josefa Espinosa.He had been local and federal deputy. before being appointed governor of Chiapas.
He had strggled successfully for the incoporation of Chiapas in Mexico. After participating in the Independence.
Gutierrez Canales had made ​​the annexation of Chiapas in Mexico. Now is a symbol of Mexican Chiapas.
He died on July 8, 1838.

Matías de Córdova

Today we begin with a great figure in the history of Chiapas.

Fray Matías de Córdova (Tapachula, Chiapas, 1768 - Chiapa of the Indians, October 17, 1828) was a Guatemalan political and religious born in Tapachula, Chiapas, when this region was still part of Guatemala. Proclaimed the independence of Chiapas on August 28, 1821, shortly before the consummation of independence of the Viceroyalty of New Spain (Mexico). He was vicar general prior and convent of Santo Domingo de Chiapas.

He graduated in theology in the convent of Santo Domingo de Guatemala. In 1803 he traveled to Spain. He founded a printing company, where he edited the newspaper the rod and published several written under the pseudonym The Grocer. He won the annealing of the press of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. In the fable of the lion shot to fame as a writer. In 1798 won the National Contest organized by the Economic Society "Amigos del País" in Guatemala.
